Do You Like Prostitution? There's An App For That!

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

After being legalized in 2002, Germany's prostitution industry has turned into a 20 billion-dollar a year business—and it looks like the world's oldest profession is getting a modern-day upgrade with a mobile app called "Peppr."

Peppr is an app that connects those with... needs, with women and men who are willing to fulfill them for a price. The format of the app is similar to that of a dating site/app. After a user registers and confirms they are at least 18 years old, they are able to browse photos and profiles of their potential new friend.

Co-founder of the app, German native Pia Poppenreiter said she was struck by inspiration one night while taking a jaunt through a shady part of town-
“I was walking down Oranienburger Strasse – I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s the truth – it was chilly and I saw the poor girls on the streets, and I thought, why isn't there an app? It’s not efficient to wait outside,”
This is apparently an attempt to tidy up the image of prostitution—as if 'Pretty Woman' didn't already. Poppenreieter says this app will "revolutionize the image of sex work." Now if Groupon were smart, they would get in on the ground floor and start offering "buy one broad, get one free" coupons ASAP.
